You have to wonder why I prefer to post comments on my blog instead of using the nice forms on people's blogs... When reading my feeds this morning, I found three great posts, all from Planet Ubuntu.

There's Jonathan, who's reporting about some Linux deployment in prisons. I'm really amazed, but it's not because it's Linux. It's because what's happening there is an effort to help people. There's a real issue (rehabilitation) and they're coming with a good solution. It really looks like what you guys at doing at the Shuttleworth Foundation is most useful. Keep rocking, guys!

Then I read about Jorge, who used pessulus and seems to like it (even if it could be improved). I guess I'm always emotive when people start talking about it ;-) I'd be quite interested to know the gconf keys you had to manually tweak, though: this is really something that you shouldn't have to do.

Last but not least, Ante reports about a fantastic translation effort. This is really impressive. I hope you submitted all your translations upstream so that, for example, the GNOME ones can be included in GNOME 2.14.2 (which is due next week)!

Daniel found this most wonderful comment about the hug day. I really love the hug day concept. It really matches the spirit of Ubuntu.

Je vais commencer à porter un chapeau Ubuntu... Il y a quelques semaines, lorsque je suis devenu membre Ubuntu, j'ai un peu réfléchi à comment je pouvais contribuer de manière utile à Ubuntu, sans faire de code. Le code, c'est bien, mais bon, j'ai déjà une bonne dose de code à écrire pour GNOME ;-) Donc, j'ai réfléchi. Et je me suis demandé ce que j'aimais dans GNOME que je ne voyais pas dans Ubuntu.

Une des premières choses à laquelle j'ai pensé sont les bug days. C'est une des choses qui m'a beaucoup aidé pour intégrer la communauté GNOME et jusqu'à présent, je trouve que les bug days Ubuntu ne sont pas assez développés. Il y avait un bug day qui a pris la bonne direction hier, en grande partie porté par Daniel Holbach. Mais il fallait un bug day spécial. Nous l'avons donc rebaptisé hug day. J'aime beaucoup cette idée, lancée un peu par hasard, à une autre époque. J'aimerais qu'elle reste.

Ensuite, j'ai vu que pour GNOME, nous commencions à bien réussir à assurer la promotion du projet. J'ai regardé comment cela se passait pour Ubuntu. Il y a de très bons évangélistes, mais malheureusement, ils ne parlent pas bien français... J'ai regardé du côté d'Ubuntu-fr, mais peu de personnes se sont concentrées sur la présence d'Ubuntu aux conférences jusqu'à présent. Et donc j'ai décidé de tenter d'aider à ce niveau-là.

Ubuntu sera donc présent aux JLM 2005. À côté de ma présentation/démonstration GNOME, je ferai une autre présentation/démonstration mais pour Ubuntu et il y aura aussi un stand Ubuntu le samedi. Et puis, si tout va bien, Ubuntu sera aussi présent à Solutions Linux 2006, avec du beau monde sur le stand, dont un certain Sébastien Bacher. David Larlet a lancé un appel à participations pour ces deux manifestations, donc j'espère qu'il y aura encore plus de monde pour venir aider !

J'ai aussi beaucoup d'autres idées, mais bon, personne n'a voulu me donner des journées de 48 heures pour le moment, donc... ;-)
