Hey! Just a quick note about your repositories, if you want them to be compressed/perform better, try running git gc. Upon cloning, I noticed you hadn't it only needs to be done every few hundred commits, but after a big import or something it can help clean up.

Hi Vincet,
yeah it looks like I misunderstood the meaning of your post.
However, my email was including a link to your blog entry so I should not have caused too much confusion :-)

And your post included some comments about the git push man page which are now discussed on the git mailing list.

I think you could enjoy the git cheat sheet:

Xav: well, I don't think I can do more than this right now. But if you know how to advertise this a bit more, please share with me :-)

Paolo: hrm, I'm afraid that your post to the git mailing list is a misrepresentation of what's happening. GNOME is not moving away from svn, and AFAIK, we're not even considering it (although some people are pushing for this). This is only an experiment I'm doing since I'm tired of hearing arguments in this endless debate. I'm willing to be shown that git can help me. That's all. But of course, it's good to know that git developers would be willing to help us.

GIT looks great. Everybody seems to say it is really nice. However I don't think it is a good option for a project like Gnome: as far as I know GIT cannot be used natively under windows, as it relies too much on the Posix API. A workaround is possible using cigwin.

I don't think your experiment will bring big improvements about the "new-contributor-situation" but still is a very nice way to check out how the development goes with git.
