          <description>&lt;p&gt;pclouds: I can think of some reasons:&lt;br /&gt;
 + most maintainers do not care about freshmeat.net&lt;br /&gt;
 + most maintainers only send a mail, so it integrates better with their workflow&lt;br /&gt;
 + we'll be able to automate this in the future&lt;br /&gt;
 + I've seen it work really well for the GNOME project, so I safely guess it will work well for fd.o&lt;/p&gt;</description>

          <description>&lt;p&gt;ftp-release seems like freshmeat.net subscriptions. Why not ask maintainers to update freshmeat.net record when a new release is out? People then can subscribe and get the announcement if they are interested.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
