Vincent, One example would be www.osiweek.com/. There are others. Yes, these are commercial conferences. They haven't infected developer conferences yet and I am hopeful it wouldn't happen. I was only pointing out that this is actual worry in some people's minds and I don't blame them really.

Marko: I believe (not sure) that lightning talk proposals can be proposed later (even during GUADEC), but I'm not sure. You should probably ask on guadec-list.

jef: I don't know why I would immediately think of Novell when someone talks about Microsoft. Anyway, I'd be highly surprised to see Novell bringing Microsoft to GUADEC, really (and I wouldn't be happy about that). Note that there's generally no stand for GUADEC sponsors, and nearly no marketing people there. I'd be interested to see examples of linux conferences where this happened, btw. I'd guess that it'd be mostly "commercial conferences" (which are aimed at companies), not technical ones.

Does the deadline apply to the lightning talks as well, or the proposals for them can be submitted later?

Merhaba ("Hello" in Turkish, you'll either need that, or "Selam" which means "Hi")

You're wrong, Istanbul is not a town, it's a self-contained chaos generating itself on its own. There's some 20 million people living here in any given moment. Beautiful it is, though.

Tesekkurler ("Thanks" in Turkish, you'll probably need this one as well :))

The point that you didn't (deliberately?) understand is that with Novell promoting it's Microsoft patent deal heavily against Red Hat as the reason why it is picking up sales and with the habit your company has now to bring it's new found partner to linux conferences it is involved with (as has been happening in other regions), it might just bring up Microsoft to this one too. The project that you love and the community around it is getting fragmented over similar issues unfortunately and you are just continuing to avoid taking a stand unlike Miguel De Icaza who has finally come out with his objections clearly.
